Video shows BRT driver confessing to engaging in "dirty acts" that caused Bamise to throw herself out of his bus

  Arrested BRT driver, Andrew Nice Omininikoron, has been filmed giving a statement that contradicts his previous statement about what happened to Oluwabamise Toyosi Ayanwole.  In a statement televised on Monday, March 7, Andrew had claimed that he picked up 22-year-old Bamise at Chevron Lekki then later picked up three other young men. He claimed the men showed him a weapon during the course of the journey and ordered him to park on Carter Bridge.  They then got down, dragging Bamise with them. He said he was too afraid so couldn't do much to help. He didn't have a coherent answer when asked why he didn't report the incident immediately. Now, a video has shown the initial interview Andrew granted following his arrest. In it, he made no mention of three men with guns.  He claimed in the video that Bamise threw herself out of the moving bus. He added that her actions had to do with the "dirty acts" he had done. Ex-convict arrested for traffic robbery in Lagos three months after release from prison

Officials of Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested a 22-year-old ex-convict for traffic robbery three months after he was released from prison.  The suspect, Rilwan Sodiq, was arrested on Sunday, March 5, at Abiola Garden, Ojota after dispossessing a lady driving Sienna space bus of a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 phone in Ojota Bridge traffic. Rilwan, with a fractured left arm was working with an accomplice, identified as Sodiq, when he dispossessed the lady of her mobile phone.  He disclosed that Sodiq distracted the lady while he slipped his hand through the passenger's side of the car to pick the smart phone. Alhaja disclosed that her shouts attracted the attention of the RRS officials monitoring the other side of the road. "“A chase to retrieve the phone from him ensued. The officers, with the support of some good samaritans caught up with him in Abiola Garden.  The phone was recovered from his pant after denying he had stolen something," she narrated.

  A transgender man, Ryan Sanderson has revealed how he gave birth to a son, 'surprisingly' as he never thought he would get pregnant. Sanderson, a drama student, from Rochdale, Manchester, has been in the process of transitioning from female to male and taking hormone treatments for years. He also believed his now-ex partner was infertile. But despite all this, nine weeks into hormone treatments, Ryan, 24, discovered he was pregnant in 2019.   Armed military personnel and members of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, of the Lagos State Police Command have takeover the Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota, Lagos, as youths planned to protest the abduction and murder of Oluwabamise Ayanwola, a 22-year-old fashion designer who was killed after boarding a Bus Rapid Transit, BRT, on February 26. In an earlier flier distributed, some youths had threatened to storm the state Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, and all BRT terminals in the state. They also demanded justice for the deceased, the family and the prosecution of all suspects in the death. In a bid to maintain law and order, security operatives have cordoned-off Fawenhimi Freedom Park in order to prevent any form of gathering in the area.  As early as 7 am, the heavy presence of security personnel, including Police, Army, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, deployed, were seen around Ojota Bus Stop and environs at strategic points.

  The girl who was rescued from a child trafficker has been identified as 3-year-old Fatima Idowu. She was abducted from the Agege Oke-Oba area in Lagos while her family was attending a naming ceremony on Tuesday, March 1.  Fatima was in her mother, Rashidat's care at the time of the incident, a family member told LIB today. However, since it was her brother's event, Rashidat had to join other relatives in serving food. She left Fatima with other kids playing inside the compound while she went to serve the guests seated outside.   Later in the evening, after all the guests had been attended to, Rashidat returned to discover her daughter was no longer with other kids. She called the child's father Idowu Kamir to ask if he left with their daughter, but he didn't.   They began searching for their child, going from the police station to the Oba's Palace but nothing positive came out of their search. Court sacks Gov Umahi and his deputy over defection to APC

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, today March 8, sacked Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State and his Deputy, Dr Eric Kelechi Igwe, following their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC.   The judge held that the total number of 393, 042 votes governor Umahi polled during the March 9, 2019 governorship election in Ebonyi state, belonged to the PDP and cannot be legally transferred to the APC. According to the court, having defected to the APC, both Umahi and his deputy, not only jettisoned the PDP but also the votes that belonged to it.  The court ruled that going by the outcome of the governorship election, the office of the governor and deputy governor in Ebonyi state, “belong to the Plaintiff and no other political party”. “There is no constitutional provision that made the ballot transferrable from one party to the other”.   It held that the PDP is bound to retain the votes and mandate that

Five men buried alive while excavating sand in Kano

  At least five men have died while excavating sand at Bichi local government area, about 40 kilometers away from the Kano metropolis.   The men became trapped under a heap of sand at Yanlami village, the Kano state fire service confirmed. A statement issued to newsmen by the Public Relations Officer of the fire service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, on Sunday, March 6, in Kano said the tragic incident occurred on Saturday morning, March 5.   "We received a distress call from Bichi Fire Station that puddle trench has covered five people. We sent our rescue team to the scene at about 11:05a.m.,’" Abdullahi said in the statement. He added: "The victims were trapped while working in a puddle trench to get sand with the intention to help their friend who was about to marry build a house.   Part of the sand collapsed and covered them and they died subsequently." President Muhammadu Buhari has said that Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo is in charge whenever he is out of the country.   Before departing Abuja on Sunday March 6 for his routine medical checkup in the UK, the President told state house correspondents that he has capable hands to run the government in his absence.   He said; “Well, I cannot claim to be doing the work alone. The government is fully represented; the vice-president is there. Constitutionally, when I’m away, he’s in charge. And the secretary to the government and then the chief of staff.  So, I have no problem." Buhari however didn't disclose if he sent a letter to the national assembly as required by the constitution.

  Ukrainian actor and TV host, Pasha Lee has been killed while defending his country. Lee, 33, joined the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine last week to defend his country from Russian attacks which have been ongoing since February 24. He was killed on Sunday in Irpin, under shelling by Russian forces occupying the city located west of Kyiv, according to local reports. The actor had been sharing pictures of himself in military uniform on social media. In a post to his Instagram account on Saturday, Lee wrote “For the last 48 hours there is an opportunity to sit down and take a picture of how we are being bombed, and we are smiling because we will manage and everything will be UKRAINE.   The Federal Government has said it will not tolerate the recruitment of Nigerians as fighters in Ukraine amid the Russian invasion.   According to a statement signed by Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Francisca Omayuli, and released on Monday, March 7, the government is in talks with Ukraine to prevent Nigerians from being used as mercenaries in Ukraine.   The statement comes after Nigerians trooped to the Ukrainian Embassy in Abuja to volunteer following the Ukrainian President's call for people around the world to join the fight.   Suspended Nigerian police officer, Abba Kyari and six others are to remain in custody of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency till March 14.   Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja gave the ruling on Monday March 7 following the arraignment of Kyari, Assistant Commissioner of Police ACP Sunday Ubua, Assistant Superintendent of Police ASP Bawa James, Inspector Simon Agirigba, Inspector John Nuhu, Chibuinna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne.   While Mr Kyari pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the eight drug trafficking-related counts brought against him by the NDLEA, four senior police officers also pleaded ‘not guilty’ to charges brought against them. The two civilians in the trial, Chibuinna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne pleaded guilty to counts five, six and seven.
